If you like to DIY, you can overseed or fix thin or bare spots in your yard with our grass seed. Stop by our office during normal business hours and pick up a bag.
We sell our seed in the following sizes: 10 pound, 25 pound, and 50 pound bags.
Our experienced staff can effectively install grass seed at residences, commercial properties, municipalities, schools and more.
Services provided with our seeding installation include:
- Removal of existing debris (old grass, weeds rock, etc.).
- Contour and grading for appropriate drainage.
- Installation of seed.
- Laying down straw.
- Application of starter fertilizer.
To determine approximately how much seed you will need, start by measuring your yard in length and width. Multiple these two numbers together to get your square footage.
Once you have your yard's square footage, multiply this number by 8 (applying seed at a rate of 8 pounds per 1,000 square feet).
Take this number and divide by 1,000.
The final number will be the approximate pounds of seed you need.
Example:
- My yard size is 50 x 100 feet, or 5,000 square feet.
- 50,000 x 8 = 40,000
- 40,000 / 1,000 = 40 pounds of seed needed
To determine approximately how much seed you will need to overseed an existing lawn, start by measuring your yard in length and width. Multiple these two numbers together to get your square footage.
Once you have your yard's square footage, multiply this number by 6 (applying seed at a rate of 6 pounds per 1,000 square feet).
Take this number and divide by 1,000.
The final number will be the approximate pounds of seed you need.
Example:
- My yard size is 50 x 100 feet, or 5,000 square feet.
- 5,000 x 6 = 30,000
- 30,000 / 1,000 = 30 pounds of seed needed
1. Prepare Your Dirt
- Using a pointed shovel, remove old vegetation, including vegetation, rocks and debris.
- Loosen compacted soil to a depth of 2” or more.
- Rake or grade to a smooth, even contour for proper surface drainage.
2. Apply Seed
- Evenly spread seed at a rate of 8 pounds per 1,000 sq. ft. on bare dirt, 6 pounds per 1,000 square feet when overseeding.
- Work the seed into the top ¼” of soil using a leaf rake or drag mat.
3. Apply Fertilizer
- Apply a starter fertilizer at the recommended rate on the bag.
4. Apply Straw
- Spread straw so it covers 90% of bare soil.
- One bale of straw will cover approximately 450 sq. ft.
- Do not remove the straw once the grass starts to grow. The straw will protect the seed and limit erosion while helping maintain moisture.
5. Water Your Seed
Lightly water to maintain moisture throughout germination, and continue through first mowing. We recommend you apply water during extended dry periods as well so the seed does not go dormant.
